Knitters Group Full!!!

It is with regret and a bit of amazement that I have to restrict the numbers in our knitting group. For about three years now we have been getting together and helping one another with knitting projects and over those three years we have picked up a person here and there and our numbers are around 20 plus people at this time. I regret that we can't add any more knitters to that number at this time. I understand that people come and go and if our numbers decrease we will open it up again but at this time they are growing not diminishing. If I can free up another day for knitting I will but at this time that isn't possible either.
THank you for your understanding in this matter.

It's a sad day

It's a sad day here at Andjareenas Place as I inform all of you about Mary Gardiner's passing. Mary had been waiting for a knee replacement and frequented the store for all the knitting, hooking and stitching groups in order to pass the time as her surgery date came nearer. We had lots of laughs and lots of Newfie jokes. Mary could tell one because she was one. We laughed with her and were supportive of her when her brother passed away suddenly. The knitters met today and were stunned at the news as it was quite a shock to all of us. We will miss her greatly.
I picture Mary knitting in heaven with a big grin on her face a sewing machine not to far away and a beautiful piece of embroidery on display.

New arrivals

Our Frill Seeker is on its way and expected today according to the tracking email I received from Canpar yesterday. New arrivals of Rizos came yesterday as well as the beautiful rosewood sets of interchangeable circular needles. If you are looking for a gift these beautiful knitting needles come in a velvet lined box and are absolutely beauitful. The Knitters Pride sock needle sets have also been very well received and although I haven't knit with them yet the knitters are absolutely in love with them. I also received some straight sets yesterday as well. So, if you are looking for something for the knitter in your life look no further!
I debated about bringing in the Babyville Pul fabrics into the shop but I have jumped in with both feet. Check it out on the web. I have ordered a full selection of the Babyville fabrics including the snaps, elastics etc. I will let you know as soon as it's in. Great for bibs, change table covers, diaper covers etc. CAn't wait!

Frill Seeker Yarn expected next week

Well ladies, Christmas is just around the corner and the yarns just keep on coming. There are five new colours of hand painted sock yarns this week and we are waiting on five new colours of Frill Seeker Yarn expected in next week. Our end of the bolt sale is going well and the Christmas fabrics are slowly moving off the shelf. A little snow and I expect bedlaml!
We had a lovely day Friday hooking although our numbers were down. For you ladies who are away and enjoying your holidays, we miss you. I am looking at booking some one or two day rug hooking sessions next year and I will keep you updated on the blog or if you want to be contacted via email let me know at info@andjareenas.com or andjareenas@gmail.com
I have finally completed my Deanne Fitzpatrick piece and none to soon. It has been alot of fun to do but I promised myself that I couldn't start a new piece until it was finished so I have been whipping away like crazy and it's finally done. There are a couple little touch ups but I think I can say it's done. My next project will be a little smaller as I realize I need a break from a long term project.
I'm smocking again and preparing for the new year so anyone interested in smocking classes I expect to start them around the third week in January.
My little grandchildren will soon be turning one ,(where has the time gone), so I will be off to visit them next weekend to celebrate with a big party. I can't wait. Carter is moving around furniture while Peyton is content to crawl for now. I'm sure she will quickly catch up to her little brother so she can keep him in line. lol. They have all of us wrapped around their little fingers. Even their Uncle Travis. Life is good.

Christmas at Presquile

Sharon and I just returned from leaving a considerable amount of money behind at Christmas at Presquile. There is something for everyone and we proved it. Although I am sure people were watching, I managed to buy a beautiful hand dyed scarf and an equally beautiful felted pursed with flowers on the front. I think I stole it for $65.00. I am very happy with my purchases. As we were leaving the building we were accosted by a gentleman wanting to know our postal code. "Rick I said, it's me from Andjareenas". lol. He was so intent on his job that he didn't recognize me but he did remember Janice, the woman he lives with his has become a knitaholic. lol. We were then on to the tea room where they had the most wonderful rum cake as usual. Sharon felt a little light headed and we're not sure if it's the rum sauce or not. (It's the rum sauce). yummy!!!
There was certainly something for everyone there and the price ranges proved it. I don't think anyone could be disappointed. I know we weren't.

Have a great Sunday afternoon. Looks like it's going to rain so I'm inside for now. I'm sure that weatherman called for sunny weather but if I don't get it till Monday I can live with that. My twins are coming for a visit so their grandfather will be out showing them off in their Cadillac Stroller. lol

I've been shopping............

Sunday was a beautiful day and I spent it in a warehouse in Toronto picking up yarn. There are some beautiful new additions and I picked up a Malabrigo Rasta ,that is a chunky to bulky weight, in great colours. There is also some nice new sock yarn from Step and a beautiful Alpaca sock weight. I had some nice sport weight Alpaca and silk but it disappeared off the table before it even made it to the shelves. Hopefully I will have some more of it before the end of the week.
The knitters turned out if full force today and I need to move around the back room again to make room for more chairs. This group continues to grow and I am so excited about how helpful everyone is. The new sock knitters are getting help from the more experienced ones and they are so encouraging who wouldn't want to keep it up. Pat and Joanne are doing great and both have completed a pair of socks, Janice is nearing the end of the top down baby sweater and we all look forward to making our own top down sweaters in January. I'm not sure what Betty was up to today but she made me laugh several times and that's good enough for me.

Rug hookers meet on Wednesday afternoons and I look forward to seeing more examples of their work from the Ancaster school. I think they were all tired after the weekend and took a break last week so hopefully they will all be out tomorrow to bring me up to date.

Hallowee'n Hook In

I am off to the Hallowe'en Hook In on Monday Oct 31st with the Northumberland Rug Hookers at the Grace Alliance Church 440 King St. in Cobourg on Monday and will be bringing the shop with me so if you want something special, please let me know and I will be happy to bring it with me.
For the ladies in Ancaster. I hope you have had a wonderful week and I can't wait to see all your bugs. We had a fun Hook-In on Friday and we all missed you but are looking forward to seeing you back in action next week.

We are coming to the end of our 401 Quilt Run and I have to thank all the ladies who participated and drove for miles to get the Run in. It has been a very successful run and I think we have seen more people than last year. I am always surprised when someone asks me "how long have you been there"? They are equally surprised when I say "26 years". I must say that I have lived here all my life and am still surprised that I haven't heard of some of the new little businesses that have started up. There are some great places out there and if you pick up a copy of "the Link" or a county paper I think you can be kept busy for quite awhile just in our immediate area.
For those of you who read the blog but have never been in the shop it's a trip you don't want to miss. lol. I am blowing my own horn a bit but this past month we have had women from all over doing the 401 run and the comments have been delightful. We are here to serve our custmers and if you are looking for something and we can get it for you, all you need to do is ask. If we are unable to get it we will let you know.
I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend, I hear it's going to be sunny and warm. I hope they weren't telling me a fib as I have lots of leaves from two very large maples that need to be collected. My neighbour is making me feel guilty as I can hear him out sucking leaves up into a machine after it has gone dark outside. Sorry Dave, but the trees stay. lol
Hope to see you all out shopping for Christmas soon.

Fall has officially arrived

Fall has officially arrived this week and with a vengance. I knew I was quickly running out of time to clean up my gardens and the last few days proved it. There was a small break in the weather on Sunday and I was able to get one garden partially done but if I don't get at least one more sunny day I will be hanging Christmas lights from dead stalks in my garden . lol.

Several shipments of yarn and fabrics have arrived this past week and the selections are fantastic. There are all kinds of fun scarf yarns available this year as well as beautiful sock and sweater yarns.
Fabrics continue to roll in for those of you who are doing some home dec projects such as placemats, curtain toppers and pillows. Be careful when choosing fabrics for your projects and choose only fabrics with good thread count and true colours. Often people will say to me they have purchased a fabric that seems similiar to what we have but the colour just isn't the same. That would be because it is run on a cheaper fabric and therefore colours often aren't quite as vibrant. Buy the best because you are worth it and your time is very important. If you can't afford the best then buy what you can afford but continue to sew and help keep this wonderful industry growing. The satisfaction that you will receive from making something with your own hands is immeasurable.

Rug hookers. I continue to bring in fabrics and backings and books to expand this area of the shop and I thank you for your continued support. For those of you doing your own dyeing I have just received Dorr natural wool for dyeing.

Spin in Successful

I have been neglecting my blog and thought I had better update all of you on what has been going on. The third Friday of the month has become spinning day. I had a rather large fleece given to me and Pat Leclair did the cleaning and carding so I am currently practicing on that.I'm going to dye it when I'm finished and then hook with it. I find the spinning very relaxing so when the blood pressure is up , I sit down and spin. Seems to be working for now. lol
Thank you to Dianne for all the help with the spinning. You are a very patient teacher and that has made the learning very enjoyable. Several years ago I had picked up some Wensleydale that had been beautifully dyed and have tried to spin it on my own and although it seems to go well for awhile there have been some issues. Can't wait for the spin in on the 4th of October in Belleville to get some feedback.

A great time was had by all!

If you were unable to attend the Hook In in Campbellford Monday you missed out. Sorry Betty that you had to deliver and pick up and vehicle. It was a great time. I didn't count but there were at least 25 hookers and we had a beautiful spot on the water. The weather was great and there was a nice breeze off the water that made it a lovely place to spend the day. The Campbellford girls outdid themselves and if you didn't find something on the sweet table to your liking then you were just to picky. I need the recipe for the raspberry squares. Yummmmmy!
I can't wait to see the picture of everyone on the bridge with their rugs. I also can't wait to see the headline they come up with for the paper. People always do a second take when you tell them " I'm a hooker". lol
Thanks to all who supported the event and thanks to the girls who loaded me up at the end of the day. I am terrible with names but your faces I won't forget. I'm off to bed early tonight. All that fresh air has wiped me out.

Off to the Hook In Monday

Well ladies I am off the the Hook In in Campbellford on Monday.Wish for good weather as we will be out in the park. If we get the weather we are getting today, all will be successful. I have to confess that this is more pleasure than business. Although I try to get to Campbellford to hook on Mondays it never seems in the cards as I am spreading myself between the two businesses. My daughter says to me this morning" the twins and I were thinking of coming down on Monday". Of course they were! To late, I have a date. I have seen her appointment book and unfortunately mine is just as full lately. Where there's a will there's a way and I will get to see those cute little grandbabies. Carter is almost 23 lbs with Peyton the petite weighing in at 21 lbs. The Dr.says they are on the high side of the scale but assures Sheena they are not overweight. Smart man! lol

There was another large shipment of Christmas fabric that arrived on Friday so if you are thinking of whipping up a little Christmas gift for that special someone I encourage you to stop in and get your fabric while it lasts. It is selling quickly and we have practically sold out of some Christmas already and that is always a good sign.

I can't thank all of my customers enough for your constant support during tough economic times. I am constantly on the look out for specials and when I get them I will pass them on to you so keep your eyes peeled for either the blog or your email if you are on our mailing list. I also have a facebook page that you might want to check out.

More new arrivals

More new arrivals for fall today. Those of you waiting for fabrics, I had a large black and white shipment arrive today. There was also several shades of blue arrive for use in the Mock Log Cabin quilt. Blue is the number one selling colour and hopefully you will find a shade of blue to make you happy. There was also 11 new colours of Frill Seeker arrive today for you knitters who have been waiting for it. Frill Seeker continues to sell at an alarming rate and I will continue to try and keep the stock updated as best I can. If you are knitting for Christmas or for bazaars, get it early as it doesn't seem to stay on the shelves long.

Knitters were back in full force today as summer has come to an end and everyone is back into routine. Scarves, sweaters, shawls and socks are being knitted for fall and Christmas. Yes, I know I said the word but Christmas will be upon us before you know it and why not start early and work at your leisure on gifts for your friends and family. Friday sewing has been set up for just such projects. Everyone seems to get more done in a group situation so don't forget to sign up. Classes are in full swing and are filling up quickly so don't forget to get in and see what's going on. Cecile is teaching a technique class so if you need to sharpen up drop in and check it out.
There was a report that an senior citizen was seen storming out of a local pharmacy after being kept waiting to long. My concern was for her blood pressure. lol . Cliff would say you had lovely rosy cheeks B.B.
Twin update. The twins are growing at an alarming rate. Carter has seven teeth while Peyton is happy gumming it. They are growing so fast and are such happy babies. WE are blessed.

Lots of new arrivals

New arrivals of fabric and yarns every day now as we start to get ready for the fall schedule. Lots, and I do mean lots, of yarns arriving every day. There are so many beautiful colours of yarns this fall. I have been working hard shifting everything around in order to make room.
Monsoon arrived this week. I thought that very fitting considering the weather we have been having. lol. Woodland from Kertzer also arrived, a beautiful double knitting yarn that will knit up in waves of colour. I love it.
I am waiting impatiently for a very large fabric order and will let all of you know as soon as it arrives. This year every gift is hand made. I will have the joy of making it and the recipient will know that I took the time and effort to really think about them.
My daughter, Sheena, was down for a visit and had these great little snack bags for the twins. A simple fabric bag lined with a silky plastic type liner that velcros shut. It will hold a sandwich, crackers or veggies etc. When you're done, just throw it in the washer and reuse. All those plastic bags do not break down. They never go away. I know all of you have some scrap fabric and I have the liner. Make them for everyone you know.
Here's a big shout out to the Campbellford girls that headed down east for rug hooking. Hope you didn't run into Irene and if you did I hope you had a hurricane party. I know you did! lol
Drive safely home. Can't wait to see you and hear all the news.

New Arrivals

Although it has been extremely hot you all know that after August 1st we are heading into the fall of the year. Fabrics and yarns must be purchased for the Christmas present that goes on the list every year. I have just received one of the yarn shipments and a large portion has managed to move out the door quite quickly. Even if your're not knitting or sewing it's always a good idea to be prepared for that rainy day that some of us were praying for less than a week ago. There are a large number of new quilting patterns for the quilters as well as a good selection of yarns and patterns for the knitters that have rolled in already. Hookers, do not feel left out. We have lots of wool fabrics and backings so drop in and see us.

Bad Betty has struck again. I'm sure the gentleman sitting in his vehicle waiting for his wife is still wondering what goes on behind our sacred doors. What goes on at Andjareenas, stays at Andjareenas. lol
Pauline, don't encourage her . lol

I will be hosting a Spin In on Friday the 19th of August from 10-3.
Please call and let me know if you are coming. I am limited for space and don't want to turn anyone away.

See you soon

Hookers Friday

Don't forget our monthly Hook In will go on as usual this Friday. I have lots of air conditioning to go around so don't be afraid of the weather report. lol
For those of us who work in air conditioned stores and live in air conditioned homes I think the heat wave is even worse. I run out of the store and jump into the very hot van and whiz home and run into the refridgerated house. It was delightful to open the windows and doors and let the fresh air in last night. THE HYDRO WAS OFF!!!!! LOL
Good thing it wasn't earlier in the week or it could have been ugly. The night was beautiful. We sat on our front step with our candles and fire pot and lived it up until the mosquitoes drove me inside. My trust halogen flashlight allowed me to read my book and I was quite happy.
Hope all of you are enjoying your summer and hope to see you in the shop soon.

New Arrivals

While I was away I noticed several new things have arrived in the shop and now is the time to stop in and see them. We do have air so if you can make it from the house to the car to the shop, I figure you shouldn't even break a sweat lol. It is brutal out there so those of you who find it to much , all kidding aside please wait for the weather to cool off a bit.
I believe I have already mentioned the "Dyeing for Colour" and Pats beautiful fibres. For spinners, knitters and felters you have to see it to believe it. I am going to try and post a picture of the wall of goods for you to enjoy online until it cools off.

Sunday, July 17, 2011

We're having a heat wave ,,,,,,,,,,,

Wow! I know you've heard it a thousand times but is it ever hot out there today. Thank heavens for the pool that gives us a refreshing break and the central air but you still have difficulty working very much even with the air on.
For those of you who are looking for a respite from the heat, Andjareenas Place has air conditioning and we look forward to seeing you. Knitters, enjoy yourself on Tuesday afternoon but I think I will still be in the Muskokas helping Travis set up his internet and cable. Sharon and Cecile will be in charge and have strict orders to look after you. lol
For the sock makers I have put on the balance of the Mega Boot sock yarn. Regular price is $17.99 per ball and I am clearing it for $5.00 a ball. I need more shelf space as the fall yarns start to roll in. Frill Seeker is back in stock and the Frill Seeker lite with metallics. Metal is in this fall and you will need sun glasses when entering the yarn room.
I will be carrying more fibre from Pat Leclair from Dyeing for Colour and Sharon will be setting that up this week. I am going to try and have a "Spin In" once a month and will post it here when everything is set up.
There is also some Cantata Cotton for those of you who knit dish cloths. It is on sale for $1.99 per ball. It's a little to nice for dish cloths and makes lovely sweaters but for some reason I have never been able to sell cotton yarn in Trenton. Can't figure it out so I am making room for some great yarns that are arriving this week.
Fall and Christmas fabrics continue to roll in and I'm also waiting on a large notion order that will be full of new and interesting items.
See you all when I get back

Closed Saturday

I will be closed on Canada Day and the Saturday following Canada Day this week. I think this will be my summer vacation as I will be able to string four days together. I am off to Huntsville to help Travis set up his new digs and then I will be able to rest easy at night. So, take pity on me I will be back at it on Tuesday morning.
THank you , thank you , thank you. To all the knitters/hookers who celebrated my birthday with me. Betty, I don't believe you think fruit and vegetables are reallly better than cookies or cakes but it was a nice change. I'm baking next week! lol
I am having a SALE this week on flannel. 50% off until closing on Thursday June 30th so for those of you who are making quilts for the fall you might want to have a look. There are new fabrics rolling in every day and I need more room. Don't forget the Wonderfil thread sale. 50% off all Wonderfil threads while supplies last, and they are going fast.

Hope all of you are having a great summer

Hook in Friday!!!

I know there are alot of you away at Trent Rug hooking School, but for those of you left behind I am going to go ahead with the Hook In on Friday June 24th. Please let me know if you are coming.

Brenda Allen taught the ladies another great bag class using the square in a square techniques on Saturday past. Congratulations to everyone, especially you Bev. I noticed that you were completely done when you left. It is such a nice feeling walking out the door with your finished project in hand knowing that you don't have to do anything else to it when you go home.

I want to remind all machine embroiderers that the Wonderfil thread is still on for 50% off while supplies last. I also have the Solu Film stabilizer in stock.
The indoor yard sale continues with 99 cent fat quarters. I was way overstocked with the number of fat quarters we have cut and I thought this would be a great deal for those of you who are doing comfort quilts.
Take advantage of a great deal while supply lasts.

Square in a Square

Another great square in a square class was held Saturday at Andjareenas and what a great job the girls did. Brenda Allan does such a super job and everyone had a great time. Maybe I can fit into one of the classes one of these times. Brenda also offers a techniques class using the Square in a Square so that you can take your ruler to new heights. Anyone interested in setting up a class or if there is a guild out there interested in having Brenda come and teach for the day you can contact me and we will set up a class at the shop or Brenda is listed on the CQA website as a travelling teacher. You won't go wrong having her come to teach!

I am clearing out my Wonderfil thread. It will be 50 per cent off until it is gone. Wonderfil also has a top stitching thread called Accent that is about the weight of #12 perle cotton and we are clearing it out as well.

Knitters meet on Tuesday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. and hookers on Wednesday same hours. We would love to see you there.

Napanee Quilt show

Well, Geri, Sharon and I live to work another quilt show. lol. We have another successful show behind us and I will finally be back in the shop. It is always fun for us when we do shows with all the shops we know and can get caught up on the latest news. The girls from the Kingston/ Brockville area have a shop hop coming up in June. I believe it is around the 8,9 and 10th but I'm sure if you check Taylor's Sewing CEntre in Brockville or Picket Fence Fabrics you will be sure to get the correct dates. Who knows, I might use that as an excuse to get out and about myself.
The Napanee Quilt show was a huge success for everyone who attended and what a great bunch of ladies. They helped me carry everything in and helped load everything at the end of the day. Although they all had duties they still managed to lend us a hand and for that we thank them. Although I didn't win the Fathers Day prize, I have to commend them on their prize table. Someone went above and beyond the call of duty to get those prizes and perhaps that's partially what brings in the crowd. The quilts were amazing and all very different. This is what I would call a hard working group. Congratulations ladies and thanks for the invite.

Napanee quilt show

Geri and I are off to the Napanee Quilt show tomorrow at 8 a.m. Hope to see all of you there. It's supposed to rain all weekend so why not come on down and see the beautiful quilts the ladies have made.
There are plenty of vendors and you could do a little shopping while you are there. I am taking my rug hooking supplies as well as my Brazillian emroidery there for you ladies from the Kingston area that have called asking me to take them.
This week was a recovery from Mothers Day week. I think I'm finally back on track and ready to go. It was a busy week at the shop preparing for the quilt show and meeting with our knitters and hookers. We missed Bad Betty this week and hope she's feeling better soon.
My little babies were down for a visit yesterday and although I can hardly wait to see them again, I realize how exhausted I am when the have left. Peyton has beautiful new diamond earings that her Mom and Dad got for her and although she has very little hair she looks lovely in her new bling. Carter spent a good part of the evening with his Uncle Travis who, after a couple of hours felt he really needed a break. lol

Hope to see you guys at the show

Quinte Quilters Show

I hope to see you all out to the Quinte Quilters Show this weekend at the Curling club on Bridge St. West in Belleville. We will be setting up tomorrow and open for business on Saturday and Sunday at the show. Everyone works hard to make this show a success so put aside a little time this weekend to drop in to the show.
Hook In Friday at the shop. I worked very hard today and loaded everything into the van so that we could still have our regular Hook In.
For those of you who are off to London to the Annual, I wish I could be there. Hope you guys have a great time, take plenty of pictures and bring them with you to class on Wednesday. Unfortunatley I had prebooked the quilt show or I would be there with you.
Cecile will be looking after the shop on Saturday so don't forget to stop in and see her. Who knows what kind of deals she might be offering.

Landscape class

Another great rug hooking class from Janice on Wednesday. I can't wait to see what this group produces.THank you to Pauline for your information on the Northern Kiki bird. Betty, you really shouldn't encourage her. lol
I was off to the flower shop to help out for Easter. They didn't think they needed me but we had a very busy day and I left Sharon in charge at the shop. I knew she could look after just about anything.
There were some new fabric arrivals this week. Some beautiful batiks and another addition to the hockey line of fabric. I really hate it when you buy a line of fabric and they trickle in one at a time but I do what I can because it doesn't seem to matter if it's fabric, stitchery supplies or knitting , they all seem to back order.
There is a new shipment of Marble Chunky that should arrive in the next couple of weeks and keep your eyes open for some needles from Serendipity Needles that should also arrive in the next few weeks. There will be some pink ribbon needles coming for those of you who support the cause.
We are off to the quilt show in Belleville this weekend. It is being held at the Curling Club located at the fairgrounds next to the racetrack in Belleville. I am looking forward to seeing lots of old friends. I understand from an inside source that it is shaping up to being a very good show. I never doubted it for a minute. It is always a good show.
Don't forget the Hook In on Friday afternoon. I will have to leave early but we decided to go ahead with it anyway as everyone looks forward to it.
Unfortunately I have to set up for the quilt show the next day but that doesn't change anything at the shop. You girls can run the place on your own. lol
Bad Betty, you're in charge.

A great time!

Sharon and I were off to The Gathering in Port Hope on Saturday and what a great time we had. We pulled in and everyone ran out in the rain and carried all our stuff inside. That is such a nice thing to do and they do it every time and we really appreciate it. After setting up I got to cruise the room and what a great selection of knitting yarns and fibre available. Sometimes we leave some money behind and this day wasn't any exception. I picked up some great sock yarn from Pat LeClair at Dyeing for Colour and some great dog bones for Jasper and fudge for Cliff. It was a successful shopping day and selling day. Lamburgers for lunch. mmmm
Everyone should try to make this show next year. You will have the time of your life.
Today is Travis's 21st birthday and it is almost noon and he is still asleep. No surprize as I think they rolled into the house around 4 a.m. Oh, to be young again. The only time I see the sun rise today is when I have insomnia and haven't been able to sleep past 3 a.m. or when the trucks are running next door. lol
I am off to the Home Show here in Trenton this afternoon with my Mom. It's been snowing on and off this morning and it is blowing so hard that working outside is out of the question.
Sheena, Kurt and the babies are on their way home from Ottawa where the Whitby Steelhawks sledge hockey team won Bronze. Congratulations guys.
Hope you all have a great weekeend.

The Gathering

After a successful and tiring Shop Hop, Sharon and I are off to the Gathering at the Port Hope Community Centre. I look forward to this every singe year. A great collection of Vendors with every type of yarn, button and fleece you could want. There is always a good turn out of spinners so grab your wheel and come out this Saturday. There will be barbecued lamb burgers for lunch. mmmmmm
See you there.

Thank for a successful Shop Hop

First, I would like to take the time to thank all of you for a very successful Quilters Shop Hop. When we began on Thursday morning we didn't see alot of people out and were worried that perhaps our lack of organization ( I can't call it anything else) would twart the preparations we had made. You didn't let us down and for that I thank you. When Cecile and I closed up on Friday we just looked at each other and burst out laughing. We were definately bedraggled and exhausted. Next year we promise to be better organized and in better physical condition. lol

To Betty. I would like to extend my sympathies on the passing of your Mother. You have regaled us with lots of hilarious moments you have spent with your Mom and although you don't realize it yet, they are they things that you, Lara, Rose and George will look back on. I felt that I knew her.

Janice, I hope you have enjoyed your vacation because I think the rug hookers are ready to put you through your paces.

Cecile has been working at putting together a list of one day classes for you quilters who want to improve on your skills. I will work hard to get it ready for this week.

On a persaonl note, Travis is living it up in the sun while Cliff and I are looking after getting his car repaired. Only kids can hit a moose, continue on to the get together they were orginally headed for and they fly out the next day for a week in Florida. I wish I was younger. lol

Hope all of you have a great weekend.

Hookers Rule!

Another great turnout for our monthly Hook In. Nice to see everybody and for those of you who were unable to attend we missed you. Janice, hope you're enjoying yourself and the weather is a little warmer where you are.
Geri, I hope you're enjoying yourself in New York City. Sorry I couldn't be there lol. Thanks to Phyllis for the suggestions on my sky. You were right and I will probably pull more of the blue out of my piece. I'm going to be looking at pictures of the sky to help me along. You guys are really a fun bunch and I had a great day today. Not everyone gets to go to work and do all the things that they love to do. I am blessed.
Don't forget that our Quilters Shop HOp will be coming up on April 7th,8th and 9th. All the same shops will be participating but I think you will be surprised and delighted at some of the in store specials that will be available. There will be deep cuts in prices on books and some of the patterns. Just a little info to tantalize.
For those of you who have been waiting for sock yarn there has been a huge variety come in to the shop in the last two weeks so be sure to stop in and have a look. Our Tuesday Knitters group make quick work of the sock yarn so hurry so you won't be disappointed.
Those of you who are waiting for info on Travis's hockey team. They have moved on to the finals and are now facing off against Elliot Lake.
I will have to make at least one trip there. I am not looking forward to the long drive but Travis tells me the view is beautiful. That's saying something for a twenty year old to tell me that.
Sheena's twins are growing like crazy. Carter is over 16 pounds and Peyton is over 15 pounds. They are distincly different in size when you lay them next to each other. BEing a grandparent is the best. I recommend it to those of you who haven't tried it. lol

Get your sock fix!

Finallly the new shipment of sock yarn has arrived. Bad Betty has been cruising the yarn room for weeks searching for even a sniff of new sock yarn. There was a small arrival of On Your Toes wool and bamboo last week but it was not enough to quench her thirst. Well Betty, it's here and waiting for you on Tuesday afternoon. lol
Sharon and I were busy today getting ready for the Shop Hop on April 7,8 and 9th. I know we have time but we have been so busy in the shop of late that I thought we had better get on it if we were going to do anything big. Today we hung new curtains all over the store and moved some furniture around but true to form we got busy in the afternoon and there is still plenty to do. It is spring and we are spring cleaning. There will be huge savings at our shop hop and prices that won't be beat.
Marie Paul brought her fellow stitchers in this afternoon for a visit. We were very glad to see them again. Ann, at Knowledge and Needles has a retreat this weekend and the girls always find their way to the shop for fabric or yarn while they are in town.
The Rizos is back in the shop in new colours and we have a deal on cotton, 10 balls for twenty bucks. As long as our suppliers are offering these great deals we will be buying them. You can't break up the bags but the price is right. Less than half price.
Hope all of you are enjoying this wonderful weather and have a great weekend.
Travis's hockey team were beat today and are in a 3 games to 2 situation right now. Hopefully they will win tomorrow and Monday and advance to the final round. The babies are sleeping all night and Carter weights 16 lbs. Peyton around the 15 lb. mark.

Square in a Square Class

What a great day it was with Brenda Allen teaching the Square in a Square class. The girls had a wonderful time and as always Brenda is a pleasure to have teaching. Bev, Marie Paul and Lucie did a great job on their blocks today and I have to admit I soon need to sit in on a class.
Frill Seeker is selling rapidly and we will soon be out of all but the Lace Effect Frill Seeker. It is very fun to work with and looks great.
A big thank you goes out to Franny for fixing my serger. I can now serge some pieces of burlap for you Janice if you would like me to. You go away on your holiday and seeing as I am stuck at home I would do that for you. Can you see my pouty lip from here? lol
South Muskoka Shield are starting the second round of the playoffs on Saturday night and I hope to make one of the games in Bradford this weekend. I see Travis for all of about five minutes total and off he goes. We miss him popping into the shop and calling with all his serious problems, like, "we're out of ketchup".lol. He's not really that bad.
Looking forward to seeing you all at knitting on Tuesday afternoon.

OKAY NOAH, WHERE'D YOU PARK THE ARK?

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I'VE HAD AS MUCH OF THIS WEATHER AS I CAN TAKE. LUCKY FOR US THAT WE HAVE NO LEAKING ROOFS OR FLOODING IN OUR BASEMENT (YET). FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE SUFFERING THE LATTER, MY THOUGHTS GO OUT TO YOU.
TODAY WAS A DAY FOR SPRING CLEANING AND EVEN I WAS AMAZED AT THE UNFINISHED PROJECTS IN MY STOREROOM. I AM ALWAYS SURPRISED AT WHAT I COME ACROSS IN THAT STOREROOM, FROM CONES OF YARN TO TRIMS AND BITS OF UNFINISHED SMOCKING. I FOUND SEVERAL PARTIALLY FINISHED QUILTS AND THE PUSH IS NOW ON TO GET THEM DONE. SOMEONE ONCE TOLD ME THERE SHOULD BE A QUILT ON EVERY BED IN YOUR HOUSE AND WITH WHAT I FOUND IN MY STOREROOM TODAY I THINK I CAN JUST ABOUT MAKE IT. LOL
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE LOOKING FOR TRIMS FOR CRAZY QUILTING I HAD A NICE LITTLE SHIPMENT OF TRIMS ARRIVE TODAY. I ADMIT I AM A FIBRE JUNKIE AND FOR SOME REASON I CAN'T STAY AWAY FROM DECORATIVE TRIMS. I MAY NOT HAVE A PLAN AT THE MOMENT BUT THERE ARE SOME THAT I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM BUYING FOR THE SHOP. ANYONE LOOKING FOR TRIMS FOR BRAS TO QUILTS I THINK I HAVE IT. LOL
HOCKEY FANS I DID RECEIVE A COUPLE OF BOLTS OF NICE HOCKEY NOVELTY PRINT. IT WOULD BE GREAT FOR A QUILLOW FOR THE MAN IN YOUR LIFE. GIVE HIM SOMETHING TO KEEP WARM IN FRONT OF THE TV DURING THE NHL PLAYOFF SEASON.

THE SHIELD MOVE ON!

ALTHOUGH WE WERE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE GAME LAST NIGHT, WE WERE KEPT UP TO DATE ON THE PROGRESS VIA TEXT MESSAGING. GOTTA LOVE IT. SOUTH MUSKOKA SHIELD WON THEIR GAME LAST NIGHT 10-4. TRAVIS HAD A GREAT NIGHT (OF COURSE WE WEREN'T THERE) AND HAD A HAT TRICK AND ONE ASSIST. I'M NOT SURE WHO THEY MOVE ON TO PLAY BUT I'M HOPING IT'S CLOSER TO HOME. LOL
I'M OFF TO VISIT THE BABIES TODAY AND HAVE ANOTHER DRESS ALMOST SMOCKED, 3/4 OF THE SECOND SOCK KNIT. AFTER TIDYING UP MY LOFT BEDROOM LAST NIGHT I FOUND A FEW MORE UNFINISHED PROJECTS. THE REASON ALL THAT STUFF IS UP THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE IS OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND. IT'S A NICE BIIIIG
STORAGE ROOM RIGHT NOW. OH WELL. BACK TO THE GRIND. LOL
HAVE A GREAT DAY
SEE YOU TOMORROW

It's slippery out there!

BE CAREFUL WALKING OUT THERE TODAY. THE PLOUGH JUST WENT BY THE HOUSE AND YOU COULD HEAR THE ICE HE WAS SCRAPING UP OFF THE HIGHWAY. I STARTED A POST YESTERDAY THAT WAS TITLED "RAIN RAIN GO AWAY". I DID WANT IT TO GO AWAY BUT I CERTAINLY DIDN'T WANT THIS. THE PLOUGHING BILLS ARE SCARY THIS YEAR. SERVES ME RIGHT FOR DOING THE HAPPY DANCE LAST YEAR WHEN THEY WERE SO LOW! IT LOOKS LIKE THE TEMPERATURE IS GOING UP ON MONDAY AND WE WILL BE HAVING ANOTHER THAW. I CAN HARDLY WAIT. LOL. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHOSE BASEMENTS ARE FLOODED, I FEEL YOUR PAIN.
WE WON'T BE HEADING OFF TO BRACEBRIDGE FOR HOCKEY THIS WEEKEND. OUR SON CALLED AND TOLD US TO STAY OFF THE HIGHWAYS. HE DIDN'T NEED THE STRESS OF WORRYING ABOUT US DRIVING ALONG WITH PLAYOFFS. HE'S A PARENT ALREADY AND HAS NO KIDS AND ISN'T MARRIED. I LOVE IT! ALL THOSE TIMES WE WORRIED ABOUT HIM IS PAYING OFF.
I HAVE STARTED TO BALL UP SOME OF OUR SKEINS OF SOCK YARN FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HATE TO TAKE IT HOME AND WIND IT. THE SWIFT AND BALL WINDER IS THERE AT THE SHOP FOR USE IF YOU NEED IT SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO USE IT AT ANY TIME. RUMOUR HAS IT THAT THERE HAS BEEN A BIG INCREASE IN BOTH OF THOSE ITEMS.
I'M OFF TO SMOCK A DRESS AND MAYBE FINISH A SOCK. LOL
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND AND SEE YOU NEXT WEEK.

FRILL SEEKER AND FRILL SEEKER LACE EFFECT!

FRILL SEEKER AND FRILL SEEKER LACE EFFECT ARE BOTH IN STOCK AND SELLING FAST. WE RECEIVED THE FRILL SEEKER SHIPMENT ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND OVER HALF OF IT IS GONE NOW. THE FRILL SEEKER LACE EFFECT HAS ALSO ARRIVED AND IT WILL BE FLYING OFF THE SHELVES AS WELL. I KNIT THE LACE EFFECT LAST NIGHT ON THE WAY TO THE MUSKOKAS AND EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT IT GOT TO DARK TO KNIT IN THE VAN, I WOULD HAVE COMPLETED IT. I HAVE TO SAY THAT I REALLY LIKE IT AND AS SOON AS SOMEONE KNITS WITH IT THEY WILL TOO.
I AM KNITTING IT IN EXACTLY THE SAME MANNER AS THE FRILL SEEKER AND IT IS A VERY LACY SCARF THAT WOULD BE GREAT FOR SPRING. I SEE THEM EVERYWHERE I GO SO HURRY IN AND GET IT WHILE IT'S STILL HERE.

CASCADE FIXATION IS IN STOCK IN A BIG WAY. I MADE A LARGE PURCHASE OF THIS WONDERFUL YARN. IT WAS ON SALE SO IT'S SIX BUCKS A BAG OF SIX. YOU CAN'T BREAK IT UP BUT AT THAT PRICE WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO?

ALSO

I HAVE A HUNDRED BOLTS OF NEW FABRIC COMING SO KEEP YOU EYES PEELED AS I AM SURE YOU WILL LIKE WHAT I'VE PURCHASED FOR SPRING. REMEMBER IT'S NOT JUST FOR QUILTING. WE HAVE PEOPLE DOING ALOT OF HOME DEC WITH OUR FABRICS AS WELL AS SOME DRESSMAKING, CHILDRENS SPRING OUTFITS, BLOUSES ETC.

HOPE ALL OF YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND. I WILL BE ON THE ROAD AGAIN WITH OUR SONS HOCKEY AS WE HAVE STARTED PLAYOFFS. GAME ONE GOES TO THE SOUTH MUSKOKA SHIELD (THAT'S US) AGAINST ORO MEDONTE. WE WON 6-4. IT WAS AN UGLY WIN BUT A WIN NONE THE LESS AND WE WILL TAKE IT. THE BEST PART WAS SEEING TRAVIS FOR US.
THE TWINS WERE HERE THIS WEEK FOR A VISIT AND THEY ARE GROWING SO FAST IT IS HARD TO KEEP UP. GRANDCHILDREN ARE WONDERFUL, IT'S THE OBNOXIOUS GRANDPARENTS THAT I WONDER ABOUT. WE ARE NOW PART OF THAT CLUB AND IT'S GREAT!!!!! LOL

A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL AND HOPEFULLY NEXT MONTH WE'LL BE RID OF OLD MAN WINTER. I LEARNED THAT I NEED TO LISTEN TO MY TEACHER, AFTER ALL SHE'S THE ONE WITH THE DEGREE AND HAS A LITTLE MORE SMARTS THAN I DO. THANKS JANICE.

Beautiful day out there

What a beautiful day it is out there today. Don't be fooled by the sun. It is still cold but the sun makes it worth the effort to get out and walk. When I was putting the beagle out this morning I could hear the song birds and I hadn't heard any for some time. I figure they were buried deep in the trees during that last cold spell. I had a beautiful Cardinal at my kitchen window feeder reminding me to fill it up. We're Back!!!

Keep your eyes posted for announcements regarding yarn shipments. It seems that the yarn industry wasn't ready for this season and things are extremely slow arriving. I'm going to wake up one day and our back room will be taken over by boxes of yarn. Being the impatient person that I am I order from anyone who has stock. It is frustrating as a business owner.
I do expect some new sock yarn this week as well as some of the Frill Seeker Lace Effects. Although the company is unable to provide us with the original Frill Seeker, I am looking forward to seeing the Lace Effect.
We do have new colours of Ondas by Katia as I have previously mentioned but it is going fast.

Hope all of you have a great weekend and a great Family Day. I hope to make a little trip to see my babies for Family Day as they won't know their Grandma as I haven't seen them for two weeks. lol
To the Grandmas out there whose grandchildren are far away I salute you. I don't know how you do it. It's all I can do not to move at least a little closer so I can have more of a day to day contact. Relax. I couldn't stand the stress of living in a city that size. lol

Closed for a snow day!!!!!!!!!!!

Well ladies. I have succumbed to the weather. I will be closed today, Wednesday, for a snow day. The wind, more than the snow is keeping me at home and none of us should be on the road. As long as Mother Nature doesn't send us more of the same over night ( or worse), I expect to be back open on Thursday morning.
Have a great SNOW DAY !!!!!!

Let it snow...........

What a day. Saturday morning I woke up to snow and it didn't stop. I really didn't expect it to continue all day, but after shoveling the sidewalk for the second time I realized that it wasn't giving up. However, like all good fibre people, my customers didn't let me down. I opened early and from about 9:15-12:30 there was a steady flow of traffic, with people picking up something to do in case they got snowed in. lol
I even brought home some of the new Riot yarn to knit another pair of socks. I figure if I'm going to continue to go to the Gravenhurst arena where there is no heat right now I better go prepared. I might even knit a matching hat!! I don't usually wear hats but this calls for desperate measures.
What a beautiful Sunday morning out there. The sun is shining and there is no snow but when the Beagle stuck his toe out the door his look at me said " you're kidding me right?" Wow, is it ever cold. Bundle up warm if you are going outside today kiddies.
I was to busy to have my little knitter in yesterday but I have to tell you that Katherine doesn't need me to continue knitting. She showed up with her Dad and he was wearing the toque that she made for him out of Cascade eco wool. It was amazing. Sharon had helped her with the finishing but she had done 98% of the hat by herself. She then picked up a skein of hand dyed Manos de Uruquay and made a lovely little purse. I am so proud of her. She has made dishcloths of cotton, her dads hat, the purse,a lovely pair of slipper boots out of a boucle from Noro and heaven knows what else. She is making scarves out of Frill Seeker now. She is 10 or 11. A great kid and I am lucky to have her. I wish she could come to one of our knitting groups so that she could show all of you what she has done. We're knitting socks next!
Hope you all have a great day. I am off to No Frills to fight the crowds at the $1.00 sale. lol

I'm Back.............

I have been back from the flower shop since just before New Years but had neglected to post anything because of the busy season. I apologize.
We are in full swing with rug hookers meeting again on Wednesdays, Stitchers on Thursday mornings and Knitters on Tuesday afternoons.
I am working hard at trying to put together a schedule so that you can all access it on the internet or pick a copy up in the store. It is for self preservation as those of you who know me know that life has gotten very busy.
The twins will be coming regularly on Sunday nights and staying until Monday evenings so that both parents can have a break. I have been trying to get into shape (lol) so that I am up to the task. Payton was up from 1:00 until 3 a.m. I had sent Sheena back to bed and stayed up with her. At 3 a.m. I decided to make the decision to feed her again. I'm a Mother right? I can make that decision. Besides, her own Mother was sleeping so I just got that bottle out of the fridge and gave her a couple more ozs. Off she went to dreamland until 5:30 a.m. Woo Hoo! For those of you who know Travis, he has gone to play hockey for the South Muskoka Shield in Gravenhurst. I have never been in a colder arena in my life. For now Ciff and I are empty nesters at least until the twins arrive for their weakly vist.
For those of you who are waiting for Frill Seeker yarn and for Ondos we are waiting patiently. We did receive two new colours of Ondas this afternoon but have 5 on back order. We will get it when they ship it. It is as simple as that. I don't know where I am in the line but when they work their way down to me I will receive my shipment. You know, it's like being on hold, your order is important to us, STAY ON THE LINE, I would like to hang up but then I won't get my yarn. lol. Patience is a virtue. Unfortunately not one of mine.
There are several new yarns coming and I am excited about them. Hopefully we're not all out in the gardens when they arrive.
Stitchers, there is a yard sale table of cross stitch patterns as well as books that are on for half the price shown on the books. These patterns are already reduced and a great buy for those of you looking for something new but have exhausted the budget after Christmas. lol
Upcoming events. Fran Vidal will be teaching a seger class on Monday January 17th. This will be a 3 part class for those of you who need a serger refresher. Brenda Allen will be back to teach a techniques class using the Square in a Square method and for beginner quilters I will be teaching a Log Cabin start to finish class on Thursday afternoons for three weeks beginning January 27th from 1-3 p.m. I am also doing UFO Fridays again. Please check to see what dates are available.

Our regular Hook in will be on January 28th beginning at 10 a.m. Please make sure that you are on our list.

Hope all of you had a very Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you in the shop
Mary Anne
