Inventory Finished!

I see by my last post that it has been some time since I have sat down and typed a post.
We have been counting inventory and even I am amazed at the number of items we have in the shop and I bought it all. lol
Now that the counting is behind us we can move on to the more enjoyable things in life.
I have finished my poinsettia table mat. Of course when I go to find the vintage buttons that I thought would be perfect for the center of the flowers , they have gone awol.
For those of you who know me well, you will know this is not a surprize. I can't blame this on anyone, that is the sad part. I think I moved them. It is something I seem to be doing alot of lately. Moving items from a perfectly fine place to a new home. It's driving me crazy! On the flip side I have been looking for my dye spoons for about 2 months and I have found them! Woo Hoo. That means there will be some new rug hooking wool coming your way shortly.
If you haven't been into the shop lately, you will be pleasantly surprised with the new selection of sock yarns that have come in as well as some great new colours in Marble Chunky and Baby Marble. The weather has turned and winter will soon be upon us so stock up with your favorite yarn and needles or hook and settle in.
Hookers, remember that our all day hook in will be held on the last Friday of the month. Please let me know if you plan on coming so that I can set the room up to accomodate the numbers.
For those of you who have been sending me the "Maxine" emails. Keep them coming. I laughed till I cried on Saturday morning when I finally had the time to sit down and read it.
Starting my day out with laughter is definately a bonus and makes for such a great day.

Cheers
Mary Anne

Travis Scores

For those of you who know our son Travis, you will know that he has gone off to University in Grand Rapids Michigan. Travis has been in a bit of a drought lately with his hockey game. He has finally managed to score a goal against Oklahoma State University and it just happened to be the winning goal.
The monkey is off his back and he can now relax. lol

I wasn't sure how Travis would embrace school and once again he has surprised me. He is doing very well (except for Math) and is embracing university life. He was never ready before now and I was worried because we all know they need education.  I will never forget his grade four teacher telling me that he would changed when he was ready and over the years I have watched it happend just as she said, again and again. Don't rush them , they eventually come around.

Fat quarter bag class tomorrow

I'm doing a quick little fat quarter bag class tomorrow morning. As you know there is limited space so call before you come.
I will teach this again and again. What a great little idea for those of us who have collected fat quarters galore and really would love to use some of them up. They are great little gifts for teachers, fellow workers or someone special that you want to have a little something at the holidays.

Knitters meet tomorrow afternoon and I can only hope that the yarn arrival is in. I know it's on its way but true to form it will probably roll in at the end of the day tomorrow. There are some yarn swifts for those of you who are tired of wrapping those skeins around a chair and ball winders so that you can wind them into nice organized balls.

Fabrics are rolling in daily and I hope there will be more Christmas again this week. We all need to get hopping if we're going to be ready for Christmas. Smith Falls has already had a dusting of snow this past weekend and as soon as that happens people will be in a mad rush to get things finished.

Remember, Thursday morning group seems to be a mixed bag and we are knitting, quilting and hand stitching on that morning.
Spinners meet this Friday for a spin in. I want to soon start knitting up all that handspun I've been making.
I've been hooking with some of it but I'm spinning faster than I can hook. lol

New Arrivals

We have received a shipment of Riley Blake Christmas fabrics in the shop this week as well as new flannels to keep you warm on those upcoming winter months.
For those of you who have been waiting for kiddie flannels there are some really cute pieces that have come in. One of my favorites has ballet shoes all over it. I can see my little Peyton dancing around my living room with a ballet blankie.
I think I'll get at that right away. lol
I've been busy making fat quarter bags. Two fat quarters is all it takes and we all have those so drop in for a tutorial on these great little bags. They make great teachers gifts.
Do you be scared away on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons. Knitters and Hookers meet on those days and our parking lot can be quite busy. They don't bite so please come on in and shop.
The first two Fridays of every month will be dedicated to UFO Fridays. Bring all those unfinished projects that have been sitting in your closet and lets get them finished and turn them into FO's. Book your spot in advance so you're sure to get a chair. There's an awful lot of UFO's out there from what I've heard.

New Arrivals

Just in!
There is a nice selection of oriental fabrics that have just arrived at the shop. These fabrics do not last long so don't wait to see them. There has been alot of Japanese inspired quilt projects going on so drop in and check them out.

The Soft Landing Queen Size quilt batts are back in stock as well as the 1 lb. bags of Soft Landing Stuffing.

Dip dyed sock yarn is in and going quickly . I wasn't sure how it was going to knit up  but I've seen some socks taking shape and can't wait to start a pair of my own.

I'm Back

Finally , a little free time to sit down and blog.
Life has been keeping me very busy.
My Mom fell and broke her arm at my home while looking after the twins. No, they didn't push her down, she stumbled and did it all on her own and that's their story and they're sticking to it.
Our son Travis, has gone off to university in Grand Rapids , Michigan to go to school and play hockey. I'm not sure in what order but I am hoping for the best. lol

My days begin early in the morning and end in the late evening. I am spending quality time with my Mom , who does not slow down or stop and who can still be seen at Lottie Jones running the show.

We have been very busy at Andjareenas Place with lots of classes starting up for the fall. Saturday, we had a rain poncho class with the PUL fabric. What a day. I never saw a day that called for a rain poncho more than this past Saturday. I was amazed at the number of people who were in and out considering the torrential rains we were subjected to. I salute those of you who subjected yourself to that storm.

Hookers have started their inch mats and it was quite amazing to watch them choose from several quilt patterns to plan their rugs. We are multi purpose if nothing else.

Fall is just around the corner

I know you hate for me to say that but fall is just around the corner. The cooler nights are a good indication but I may have to eat my words after todays temperature. It is so hot outside that I'm almost afraid to leave the air conditioning. Everyone must have felt the same way today because the front door hasn't stopped opening and closing. I think we're like the animals and someone said it's going to be a long winter and women are out collecting for their indoor projects.
Classes are set for September and we are very excited about the new sewing classes. Pat is teaching a silk camisole for you to wear under your beautiful blouses and there are lots of quilting, hooking and stitching things going on as well.
I am trying to accomodate you ladies who are working all day so please bear with me. This year I am teaching a quilt in a day for the ladies who want to learn but can't give up four nights or four weekends. I hope this allows you to get started and enjoy the quilting bug like the rest of us.
Hookers, Janice Daniels is starting an inch mat class and you don't want to miss out. The class is already half full so don't forget to sign up!
We are still stitching, knitting and hand quilting on Thursday morning, so if you're stuck on something or need help , don't be afraid to join us and I will try to solve your problem. There are no machines at this class.
See you soon

New fall arrivals

I find it rather amusing that I am announcing fall arrivals in the middle of the hottest part of the summer. It doesn't feel anything at all like fall, but like death and taxes, you will be able to count on fall coming and before you know it we will be into the cooler weather. The PUL fabric that is completely waterproof has taken on a life of its own and I find people using it for various projects. Pat has made the cutest rain poncho and will be teaching it this fall. The monster fabric print in the PUL fabric is now in stock so for those of you who have been waiting my suggestion is to move quickly as I had barely opened it and it began selling.
There are numerous new fabrics for all your quilting and sewing projects this summer/fall so stop in and check them out.
Pat will be running another Chino Coat class so if you want on the list please make sure to call the shop as it fills up quickly.
The yarn is about to roll in. Knitters beware! lol . The yarn orders for fall are starting to roll in and I am so delighted with the selections. For the sock knitters there will be some dip dyed as well as patterned yarn.
There are many new shades of Baby Bamboo on the way as well.
The Dreamz Interchangeable  Needle Sets should be in this shipment as well. For those of you who haven't used these needles, make sure they are on your Christmas list. They are amazing to work with.
As we get organized for fall make sure to check in on a regular basis. I will be running some daily specials that will make it worth your while.
Check out the Andjareenas Place facebook page.

More new fabric

Two very new and unusual fabrics. I was asked over and over again for Giraffe fabric and the one to the right is a pretty good one I think.
Just a small sampling of what is to come.
Cheers.
Mary Anne

New Laurel Burch Fabrics

This is a sampling of the Lauren Burch Fabrics that have just arrived Butterflies and Dragonflies adorn this fabric and it is selling already, even in this hot weather. Apparently we all still sew in this heat. lol
Don't wait to long!

THanks

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the birthday wishes I received yesterday. A big thank you to Bad Betty for her beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday.
Thanks again

It's hot, but we have air!

We have had a very busy week at Andjareenas Place . Just when I thought that I wouldn't see anyone out in this heat, I was pleasantly surprized with the number than have been through the shop. Trent Valley Quilters had their end of the year pot luck and I saw several members through the shop on Tuesday  , before and after the meeting. Hookers were out in full force today and we are planning our fall classes. Janice is on the road to recovery after her knee surgery and we look forward to her teaching again this fall.
Pat and I have been working diligently at our class list for the fall and there will be lots of sewing and quilting on our list. I am getting ready for the Prince Edward County Quilt Show and the creative juices are flowing.
We have had an enormous interest in sewing lately and I am happy to offer classes. It is great that there are so many interested in learning. Both young and old are interested in classes and we are interested in sharing the knowledge.
Just a note to let Maureen know that we are thinking of you and hope you will be back to knitting soon. I hope you will be able to get out and about soon and we will be happy to see you.
PUL fabrics are taking off and we are actually close to selling out of a few of them. Drop in and see this waterproof fabric that is being used for diaper covers, change table pads, raincoats etc. One customer pointed out to me today that it would be great for a bottom sheet for a little one that is in training but having night time accidents. What a great idea!
Christmas fabrics are rolling in daily so don't miss out on the new flannels that are in. These will be sold out well before Christmas and some of the companion prints can be used for projects that are not for Christmas.
Hope to see all of you out and about soon and with the same excitement that I have for sewing this fall

Spin in Friday

We are spinning this Friday from 9:30-3. Hope to see you all out.
I've been spinning some alpaca that Pat from Dyeing for Colour gave me and realized that I could ply it along with some merino that I had from Fleece Artist. It worked great and I am very pleased with the finished product. I just have to decide whether to hook it or knit it.
We will miss Janice on Friday . Keep off that knee and we all hope you're feeling better and we miss your smiling face.
This is my year to finish! I have several quilt, smocking and hooking projects that need to be completed and I have been spring cleaning and organizing my projects like crazy. The first two Fridays of the month will become sewing days for us an Andjareenas.  Lots of classes are in the works and those of you who are interested in beginner sewing need to contact the shop and get on the list. I am so excited about this fall and all the new classes.
For those of you who are interested in hooking this summer, drop in on Wednesday afternoons and we will help you get started. Janice will be teaching this fall after her knee is better and we can hardly wait but in the meantime we can help you get started on Wednesdays. It is an informal group and I will get you started on your hooking career. lol
I have air conditioning in the shop so don't worry about coming out in the heat.
Hope to see you all this summer.

Great Quilt Shows!

Geri and I have finally made it back to Canada after 12 hours. We took in the Quilt show in Kingston this morning, had a great lunch there and met up with several friends from Trenton and Kingston.
The show was really great and it was so nice to see so many different styles of quilting. Often I have gone to shows and you see the same quilt over and over again , but in different colours. That wasn't the case today . I was really excited about all the different types of quilts and all the embellishments that went along with them. I got some great ideas to teach the kids. They love bling, and I saw lots of examples of that today.
Next show, Clayton, New York. We were met with a totally different quilt show there and an amazing selection of quilts and vendors as well. Although I was unable to find the fabric I had been looking for, I did find some great vendors with some really beautiful wool fabrics and I also found a spinner/weaver who had some fabulous yarns( of which I bought several). I loved it when the man said to me " I could listen to you speak all day" , apparently I have an accent. lol . Can you just say eh once? Are you kidding me. He took the words right out of my mouth. The two of them had the greatest accents so we had a good laugh over that. Everyone was very friendly and Geri and I took off for Watertown from there. We shopped and I managed to find a great spinning book as well as a pair of sandals for Peyton.
We shopped till we dropped and made it back home in one piece.
Hope you all had as good a weekend as I did.

New Classes

Pat and I have been working very hard this week getting new classes set for the shop. Drop in and check out some of our great quilt and sewing classes. I am asked daily about sewing classes and I am always trying to figure out how to make everyone happy. We all have a very busy lifestyle and no one seems to have weeks to dedicate to a project and I am trying to work out classes that will educate and teach, but will still allow you not to dedicate a four or six week stint of consecutive days to complete. If everyone does their homework, lol, I think we will be successful. As Dr. Oz says " everyone has seven minutes a day to exercize". lol. I haven't found my seven minutes but I am sure I could if it was for sewing or knitting.

Geri and I are off to Quilt Kingson this morning and then across the border to check out another quilt show in Clayton  New York. I am enjoying being a customer instead of a vendor. I never seemed to get a chance to really enjoy the shows from the other side of the fence and I am amazed how much I was missing. I love visiting with people I haven't seen in a long time and having time to sit and have lunch or a cup of coffee.

PUL fabric has taken off! I have a large selection of the waterproof fabric in the shop and in the last week I am seeing some real action. Lots of young Mom's who have moved away from disposable diapers and are making their own cloth diapers and fancy pants. This fabric makes great raincoats or is good for any other waterproof project you might have. I have even sold it for cushion covers for outside. I am so glad that the young Mom's are interested in cleaning up our environment and not using disposables as I have first hand knowledge of how many diapers are created in just one family. lol

My little grandaughter is finally walking. She has been walking on her knees for some time now trying to get her balance and her brother has been patiently waiting for someone to run along side of him. Well Carter, she is on the run now and you will have to try and catch her.lol

Note: All groups will continue to meet this summer and everyone is welcome. Knitters meet Tuesdays from 1-3, Hookers meet on Wednesdays from 1-3, and we have a mixed group that meet on Thursday mornings from 9:30-11:30. I have air conditioning for those of you who have difficulty with the heat( I know it's coming).
I will try to give an update on the shows when I get back home tonight.
Bye for now.

Hook In Friday

There will be a Hook In on Friday as it is our last Friday of the month. I thought I had one more week to go but Thursday is the last day of the month this month and then we are into June so don't forget.
Janice has been away hooking and presented us with new classes for the fall and I can hardly wait.
Pat has been working away on classes and it will be mid summer before we get anything underway. I will give you all time to get your gardening done so you won't be distracted. lol
She has a very funky Swing Coat from Indygo Junction on display so drop in and see it.

I am off to Wellington in July for the Prince Edward County Quilt Show and can hardly wait to see the new venue. I have new fabrics arriving daily and am preparing already for the show. Pat, from Dyeing for Colour, has done some great dyeing of wools for those of you who are doing quilting art. Beautiful abrashed colours are adorning my shelves so if you're looking for wool fabrics for applique and quilting you can find a very good selection on my shelves.

Knitters, I have had another shipment of baby yarns arrive and some great new patterns. I am waiting for the Dreamz needles still but they seem to ship when I least expect it. For those of you who are looking for those slouch hat patterns I have ordered more and expect them within a few days.

It's another beautiful start to the day . I'm wishing you all a great one.

Spin In today

What a great day! Got lots of spinning done. I was glad to see Diane, Margaret , Barb, Deb,and Kerry out today. We missed Diane T. , Betty, Phyllis and Janice but I understand your other commitments. Hopefully Janice got through Toronto before the holiday weekend rush. Stay off the roads. lol
Pat has been busy moving things around the shop and I am always surprised at a new find. It's like having a new shipment of notions every day.
The Cabin Fever sock book is back in stock for those of you who have been waiting for it and there are some new shrug patterns and some new top down baby sweater patterns that arrived late today.

Spin in Tomorrow

Well, it's been quite a week. I am finally back from the flower shop and have been knittng, hooking and Friday is our monthly spin in. Yahoo!
Although I love working with flowers as it is my first profession, I have to admit that I missed all of you and everything I do here at Andjareenas.
Just a note to let Bad Betty, Janice and Pauline  and Maureen that I missed you this week.
Hope that the Hooking in Niagara was great and I can't wait to hear the stories. A speedy recovery to Rose on her knee  surgery and to Maureen on her foot surgery.  Keep those two at home waiting on you. lol
Spinning is on Friday and I can't wait.
See you all there.

Mothers Day is coming

For those of you who know me you will know what that title means. Yes, I am off to Lottie Jones Florist for the next week to help with the overflow of orders.
All groups will be meeting as usual and Sharon and Pat will be looking after you all.
Pat Schwartz is a new addition to our staff. Pat, has been in retail all her life and is a wonderful person that I am so excited to have. She brings with her a wealth of sewing knowledge. I always referred to Pat as the serger queen. lol. Many times I Pat would help me rethread and trouble shoot my serger and I would go away feeling like I could master it. Surprisingly I have mastered the threading of the beast and I keep my class notes nearby and haven't done to bad a job.
Sharon will be there all week to help you as well. So for those of you with knitting issues, see Sharon. We are training Pat on the ins and outs of knitting but it is still new for her, so please have patience.
I apologize for not being at the Peterborough Spinners and weavers show this weekend. There was a death in the family and with everything going on I just didn't have it in me. I promise to come again if asked. Thank you all for your understanding.
In closing, I would like to remind you not to forget your Mother, or the Mother figure in your life. I have lots of gift certificates to sell for that special someone and if that doesn't work for you I can recommend a good flower shop. lol
Until next time
Have a great week
Mary Anne

Thursday morning stitching

We were a noisy group this morning at Andjareenas Place. Wow, so many opinions on so many different subjects. No more discussion on hockey. lol.
Franny was working on this beautiful piece of white work that leaves me wanting to start a piece of my own. I keep repeating over and over , don't do it. Sharon U. has some beautiful knitted cowls for spring that made me want to start another knitting project, and again I have to tell my self  not to start another thing.
Judy is working away and has done quite a bit of hand piecing on her new quilt and I am ready to put the final border on my quilt for Quilts of VAlour. Started on Monday end date maybe Saturday. Now that's my kind of project.
Hookers meet on Friday . Dastardly Deb is ditching us for the sewing show in Toronto but Bad Betty and I will be there to keep everyone in line. lol
These groups that meet on a regular basis keep us all sane and are cheaper than medication. lol
See ya tomorrow and to all who are off to the city for the show , have a great time.

What a great day!

Today I hosted Jan Easton and Quilts of Valour. What a great day of sewing we all had and thanks for all the great support. Emily Mountenay was kind enough to come out and take pictures for the paper so watch for them on Thursday. Hopefully Emily got my best side. lol
It was nice to see Marilyn Edmunds , who stopped in to check on our progress and pick up a quilt kit to make up. I'm sure she'll have hers completed before the rest of us after listening to her sewing schedule. lol

Trent Valley Quilt show on the weekend was very well attended and it was nice for a change not to be working at it. I really enjoyed being able to just walk around and have a nice look at the quilts and visit with everyone who I haven't seen in quite awhile. Unfortunately I work for a living and am unable to get out of my shop in the afternoon to attend meetings but that doesn't mean that I don't think about the guild or the people in it. There was a real variety of quilts and there are some very talented ladies in this group. More than once , while reading the tags on the quilts I realized that they were designed by the quilter. These ladies have taken great pains to design their own quilts from the ground up and done a wonderful job.
Congratulations to Sharon French . I hear that she won for her Thimbleberries pattern that had a lot of applique as well as embroidery and silk ribbon embroidery. Well done Sharon!

Quilts of Valour Monday

Don't forget that Jan Easton will be at Andjareenas tomorrow with Quilts of Valour. Drop by and check it out or participate. They have a large display at the Knights of Columbus today with the Trent Valley Quilters. This is a great show and if you have the time swing by and check it out.

Don't forget our Spin In Friday

Don't forget that our monthly Spin In will be held on Friday. Bring your wheels and fibre ladies and I hope to see you there. Bad Betty and Dastardly Debbie (I like that one Deb) will be there hooking with us.
Fresh off "The Gathering" I am excited about the new fleece I am spinning. The pile of skeins keeps growing and I know I'm soon going to have to knit something with it. For now I am really enjoying the relaxation that goes along with spinning. Next, the loom!

Quilts of Valour

Jan Easton will be at Andjareenas Place on Monday the 23rd of April for the Quilts of Valour. Bring your machines and we will provide food and drink. There is limited room so be sure to call and book your spot. There will be a five dollar charge for the quilt block kit and it will be payable directly to Jan. I am providing the venue and Jan will be looking after the rest. Mary Anne

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to all of you.
Andjareenas will be closed on Good Friday and open again on Saturday from 10-4p.m.
I hope to spend a little time with the family and see those adorable grandchildren I am so fortunate to have. Carter is walking and I'm sure Peyton will not be far behind.
On another note:

Frill Seeker black and white is back in stock but don't wait long as it won't last and is always difficult to get.
Frill Seeker twisted is in stock and doing very well. This yarn has been very well received and is only available in three colours as, you guessed it, it is sold out. I try to keep the supply up but this yarn has just exploded into the market place making it difficult to keep in stock. Check often, as the shipment seems to turn up when we least expect it.
For those of you who have been waiting for Sock Looms they are now in stock. These are a popular item as well so don't wait as the supply is limited.

SHOP HOP 2012

We had a great start to this years Shop Hop. Nice to see everyone out and supporting our shop hop. Hopefully the price of gas will not deter to many from coming out. Call your friends and travel together. You can have a nice visit and save on gas. lol
Andjareenas Place is offering 15% off all fabrics in stock and 20% off all quilting books. Sharon has been working hard this week getting $5.00 grab bags ready and they are going fast. Don't forget we have a nice gift basket that is also worth the trip.
A big thank you goes out to Sharon from my Thursday group for helping with customers this morning while my Sharon was suffering from vertigo today. All this change in weather doesn't seem to help her very much and I appreciate any help I can get.
Hope to see more of you out tomorrow

New arrivals Frill Seeker, Fabrics Notions and Stitchery Supplies

It's spring and there's lots of new arrivals for our shop hop. Fabrics have been arriving daily, there's new Frill Seeker Twisted and the latest Black Gold Applique Needles from Clover. Red Rooster fabrics from $9.99. A great price!
For the stitchers who have waited patiently I have decided to increase our stock in that area as the availability has become limited in our area. I have lots of 32 count linen and aida cloth in stock as well as blending filaments and a new arrival of Mill Hill Beads. Watch for new arrivals in this room on a monthly basis and don't be afraid to let me know what you want me to carry. It's about our customers and keeping them happy.
Hope all of you are enjoying this wonderful summerlike weather but the pesimist in me says that it's not quite here to stay. Enjoy it while it lasts. I'll take as much as I can and be thankful for it.

Hookers, remember that our Hook In is on Friday this week not the last Friday of the month due to the Quilters Shop Hop. This will be the only month that I will make this change as I thought it would save on congestion in the back room. THank you for your understanding.
THursday knitters/stitchers, hope to see you there.

Knitting today

What a great day we had at knitting today. It was a good turn out with lots of information shared. I find myself making mistakes in my own work as I try to evesdrop and learn a little trick from someone else. Nice to see all of you out today.I am knitting yet another Frill Seeker scarf. This is with the Frill Seeker twisted and I actually am really liking the way it turns out. Bad Betty informs me that I don't have to do the long tail cast on for my linen scarf so that is next on my list. THanks Betty.
There is still a couple bags of the CAscade Fixation left. Six balls for Six bucks. You have to take the whole bag but considering it is $5.95 a ball I think that's a pretty good deal.
The weather is fine. I hope it will last until after our shop hop. Every year it seems we get rain so let's hope for good weather. There will be lots of specials out there this year. I think all of us have sharpened our pencils and outdid outselves in order to get you the best deals possible. Hope to see you all there.

Hook In

I have changed the Hook In this month to the fourth Friday or the 23rd of March. The following weekend will be the Quilters Shop hop, so in order to lesson the congestion in the back room I have changed the date. Hopefully this won't affect anyone.
Thank you

Hooking

Great day yesterday with the Hooker's . I smile everytime I write that. We had a few hundred laughs and got alot of work done.
Glad to have Janice back from the sunny south and it looks like she brought some of the weather back with her. I hope we can keep it but it's early March in Canada so I won't count on it.
I have great friends and customers. I put Friends first because I look at my customers as my Friends. We share our highs and lows and prop each other up in times of need. Good Karma makes you feel great and believe me the ugly stuff stays with you.
To quote the Dalai Lama" Our prime purpose in life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them". A friend posted this to my facebook this morning and I felt the need to share it with you. To many times people take stabs at other people and never realize the hurt they inflict.
Have a great day
Love ya all

Tuesday Knitters

A great time was had by all today at Tuesday knitting. It was nice to see so many out and there was a great exchange of ideas and information. This group has been a great group, helping one another with knitting problems and sharing their work with others.
I've decided to start a booklet of the tips that we've shared in group. There is just to much for me to remember. Who know's, maybe I'll write a book. lol. That one was for you Gail.

New Scarf Yarns

WE had six new scarf yarns from Katia roll in the door this afternoon. Those of you who have been waiting I must admit, it is a nice selection. I am still waiting for the Frill Seeker to arrive but I expect it will come in Wednesday or Thursday
For those of you who have been waiting for the Dreamz Circular knitting sets and the Double Pointed Sock needle sets to come in, they have arrived as well.
Neither of the above products will last long so don't wait. Scarf yarns of all types are popular everywhere these days and we even have people travelling from a distance to pick them up.
See you soon

10 new colours of Frill Seeker

There are ten new colours of Frill Seeker on its way to the shop. This yarn just keeps on selling and doesn't stay on the shelves to long. For those of you who are interested, don't wait.
Also new from Berroco Yarns is Ric Rac. Very cool yarn that knits into a twisted scarf in no time flat. Everyone can knit!
The 90" muslin is now in stock in both off white and white.

Hooking today

We had a great day at hooking. Unfortunately Mother Nature interfered with snow, something we haven't seen much of this winter. Still, there were five of us who were able to brave the roads and take advantage of the day out. Dianne braved the roads all the way from the County. Bad Betty, who will do anything to make George get out and clean off her van. Barb, who I knew would not be held back and Deb, who was not taking Bob's advice to stay in, and yours truly. What a day. I feel like I made some real head way on the Santa I've been working on. Perhaps he will be done for Christmas. lol
Hope you're thinking of us in the sunny south Janice. We're thinking of you and hoping your weather is good. Remember, it's five o'clock somewhere, so have lots of fun while you're away.
Best wishes go out to Brian on his knee surgery. What a horrible day to be sent home from hospital but I'm sure you will be happy to be home.
Hope to see you next week Pauline.
Thanks to Barb for the lesson on Navajo plying. I'm not sure how good it was but it worked great in my hooking and that's all that matters.
Cheers M.

Knitting today

It was a great afternoon at knitting today. I promise to get that stupid scarf finished this week and have a full report on what I have been up to and why my homework wasn't finished. lol. Yes I have been working on that scarf for some time but every time I get interupted I seem to pick it up and knit in the wrong direction. For heavens sake, they are short rows just like socks I can't believe I continue to make the same mistake.
Frill Seeker is flying out the door and the latest shipment will be gone as well. I continue to try and keep it up to date but it seems that word of mouth is alive and well and I'm meeting people from across the province driving to Trenton to buy it.
The Spin In on Friday was a huge success. Thanks to Diane for the wonderful scones. They were yummy.
I'm spinning some wonderful fibre from Dyeing for Colour and it is working up quite nicely. All your troubles go out the door when you are spinning. I'm sure my blood pressure comes down as well.
My first smocking class is on Thursday of this week. We will be doing a sampler of sorts to practice stitching, a bonnet and a dress. For those of you who are interested in smocking this will be a five week class and I will try to accomodate you. If you do not want to do a bonnet and dress perhaps we could do a nightgown. The idea of the class is to learn to smock. I will help you with your sewing but you should have a knowledge of sewing.
Hookers meet on Friday. See you there.

Machine Embroidery

Andjareenas will be having a machine embroidery class for all of you who have that beautiful embroidery machine that is decorating your sewing room but has yet to be used or perhaps only used one or twice because you just can't get the hang of it. Fran Vidal will be running a class at the shop and for those of you who want to learn some new techniques this is the class to attend. Fran wants you to be able to go home and work along without her help so the object of thsi class is to learn how to do just that. To many times you take a course and make that beautiful project only to realize that it is the only time you will be able to do it on your own. The key to this class is to teach you the techniques that will give you the confidence to go home and make several new projects without the help of the teacher. All machines are welcome so call the shop to book your spot in the class. There will be only four spaces available as we feel that this is the one way that you will get maximum attention. Classes will be held on Tuesday mornings twice a month. M.

Frill Seeker yarn is in and selling fast. It wasn't even unpacked and I sold 10 balls in 13 minutes. If you have been waiting for it , don't wait. Come in asap.

We missed seeing Bad Betty today. Hope all is well and you have recovered from the wonderful time you had on your cruise. We're all jealous and waiting patiently for pictures. See you at hooking on Wednesday.

To my Dear Husband. Happy Birthday and thank you for not remembering. It made it easier on me , 'cause I forgot too. lol

It is a sad day

It is a sad day for all of us today as we say good bye to Dave Caldwell. David and my Sheena went all through school together and remained friends even into their lives beyond school. The Murray kids as this group are referred to attended Dave's birthday at the end of every school year. Every kid in the class was always invited and perhaps that is why they all formed such a bond and have always stayed in touch with one another.
For those of you who don't know David perhaps you know his Mother Brenda. Brenda is a nurse in the emergency at Trenton Memorial and has seen all of us through our emergencies. Our thoughts go out to her and Davids fiancee Brandi today in this very difficult time.

Winter has arrived

It certainly looked like a winter wonderland out there today. I wasn't expecting the freezing rain so that was a big surprize to wake up to this morning. Although the main road were in good condition the side streets and rural roads were another story. Unfortunately that affected our Hook In today. Debbie, Diane, Barb and I were the only four at hooking but we all managed to make great headway in our projects. That Santa will definately be done by next Christmas. lol
We miss you Betty. Hope your cruise is going well and your weather is beautiful. Hope you have your winter boots with you as it looks like you are coming back to winter in Canada.
There is a large selection of spring fabrics that have just arrived in the store. With the arrival of my grandchildren I realized that I don't carry a great deal of baby fabrics so this shipment is full of pastel pinks, greens, and blues. Stripes and juvenile prints are also included. I also managed to pick up about ten different baby quilt tops for those of you looking for crib panels.
Knitters
Looks like it will be next week before we have Frill Seeker back in the shop. There are quite a few colors that have just arrived in the warehouse so here's hoping that they will be able to get the order out next week. I have received a large number of Baby knitting books that are full of great projects. Check them out at your earliest convenience. These books don't stay in the shop long.
Hope to see you all out this week.

Spinning Friday

It's been quite awhile since I posted but my new year did not get off to a great start. I had the cold and sinus infection that lasted for three weeks. I tried to fight it off but finally succumbed and the doctor wrote a prescription. I am better!!!! Yeah.
New arrivals this week of 108"-120" quilt backs. Navy, burgundy and a medium rust. I thought I'd add a little colour to the collection . White and beige can be so boring at times. There are three new colours of waffle cloth that have also just arrived, black, lavender and a nice rust. All three colours work well with the new Babyville Pul Fabrics.
Sharon and I have been working our duffs off and have created several new knitting kits for your perusal. There has been alot of new sock yarn as well as some cottons that are now in so check them out if you haven't been in in awhile. The top down sweater book is back in stock and we also have a new sock book that they tell me has it all! You'll never need another one. There are some beautiful Aran yarns in several colours for those of you knitting those lovely popcorn and cable hats.
Pat has done quite abit of new dyeing for the rug hookers so drop in and see the colourful selection. If you are interested in doing your own dyeing we have lots of natural wool from Dorr for you.
Friday is our Spin In. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you there.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Hope all of you had a great entrance into the New Year last evening and are feeling none the worse for wear as a result. I, on the other hand hit the sheets at 9:30 p.m. as the season has finally caught up to me.
We are doing alot of beginner sewing at Andjareenas and the PUL Fabric for diaper covers is the newest thing. Lots of young Mom's are interested in the environment and doing their part. As a result they are using cloth diapers once again. I have had some of them knitting Soakers and felting them and with this new fabric that is completely waterproof there will be plenty of diaper covers made. My Mom was looking for a shower cap and was unable to find one so I actually cut an 18" circle of the Pul fabric and did a three step ziz zag and attached some bathing suit elastic and eureka I had a shower cap for her. It's easy to sew and although they suggest a teflon foot, I didn't use a special foot and had absolutely no problem. Stop in and see the full selection that we have in the shop now along with the snaps, velcro, foldover elastic and appliques to match.I like anything that's fun to sew!
